       Every spring, band students are given the opportunity to pass "Levels" and earn a medal.  All medals are awarded at the end of year Awards Banquet.  

       And don't forget to log your practice hours!  The practice hour requirements for each ensemble can be found in the ensemble descriptions in the handbook.  Are you going for a Bronze? Silver? Gold?

BAND LEVEL REQUIREMENTS

LEVEL 1

*  Instrument care oral test (cleaning, greasing, lubing, etc.)

*  All instruments:  2 major scales of your choice,  1 octave

*  Band method book 1 mostly completed with a comprehension of musical concepts 

   covered, and ready to perform

 

LEVEL 2

*  Six major scales of your choice, 1 octave  (♩=52)  

*  Chromatically play full range of notes used by end of book 2

*  Band method book 2 mostly completed with a comprehension of musical concepts 

    covered, and ready to perform

*  Musicianship and Theory Evaluation

 

LEVEL 3

*  Required major scales vary with each instrument. Ask for yours.

*  Technical exercises from the Foundations book in above keys

*  Chromatic scale, 2 octaves, in triplets, ♩=52, beginning on any note of your choice

*  Sightreading

*  Prepared selection for Level 3  (Ask for it.)

*  Musicianship and Theory Test

 

LEVEL 4

*  All 12 major scales

*  Technical exercises from the Foundations book in all keys

*  Chromatic scale, 2 octaves, in triplets, ♩=80, beginning on any note of your choice

*  Sightreading

*  Prepared selection for Level 4  (Ask for it.)

*  Musicianship and Theory Test

 

LEVEL 5

*  Same scale requirements as Level 4 with scales played at ♩=160

*  Same chromatic scale requirements & technical exercises as Level 4

*  All melodic minor scales 

*  Sightreading

*  Prepared selection for Level 5  (Ask for it.)

*  Musicianship and Theory Exam

 

LEVEL 6

*  Same scale requirements as Level 5 including technical exercises

*  Chromatic scale, appropriate full range to the instrument

*  All natural, harmonic & melodic minor scales

*  Sightreading

*  Prepared selection for Level 6  (Ask for it.)

*  Musicianship and Theory Exam
